Power to the People

 Dalavich Community Centre

Dalavich Improvement Group has secured a grant of £7,000 from the Carraig Gheal Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund  to help with replacing and updating the electric wiring and distribution boards within the Dalavich Community Centre.

The Centre is a vital part of the local community used by many local groups and is run entirely by volunteers. It contains a bar run by the Dalavich Social Club for the benefit of local people and visitors; a restaurant, an art room, an office, a therapy room, and ‘The Bike Shed’, which hires out bikes.

Chrissie Sugden, Chair of the Dalavich Improvement Group, said, “It’s fantastic to have the electrics upgraded within the Community Centre. This has ensured that the wiring now meets current legal and safety standards and means that we now have a fully functioning and safe electrical system in the Centre ensuring that the Social Club, Art Club and other groups can continue to function throughout the year”.

GreenPower established the Carraig Gheal Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund to support good causes within the local communities surrounding the Carraig Gheal Wind Farm. The Fund is managed by a Steering group of local people.  There is  a micro grant scheme with awards up to £250 which is available to individuals, constituted and non-constituted groups and there is a main grant scheme with awards of up to £7,000 available to constituted groups only.
