The Carraig Gheal Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund Steering Group is looking for your help. There are vacancies within the Group and we are inviting people to come forward, particularly any young adults who are keen to represent younger generations in the local area.

The Steering Group do an important and fantastic job in ensuring funds are invested to the benefit of the local community, deciding on funding criteria and making decisions on individual funding applications. The Group meets twice a year and is made up from members of the five community council areas bordering the wind farm (Avich & Kilchrenan, Taynuilt, Glenorchy & Innishail, Kilninver & Kilmelford and Kilmore). The Group is comprised of one elected member from each of the five community councils and up to five public members who are representative of the local public. The Steering Group is supported by Jennie Cowley of GreenPower who helps to ensure the smooth running of the fund and the application process.

Even though the pandemic has put a number of things on hold, the fund is still operating as normal with the current round of funding for main grants (£500 up to £7,000) now open and the closing date being 31st January 2021. The Steering Group will meet (either in person or virtually) at the end of March 2021 to decide which grants to approve and by how much. Whilst adhering to local restrictions, projects have still been able to be completed over the summer including the resurfacing of the floor and stage at Taynuilt village hall (£5,000 awarded), the upgrade of toilets at Dalavich Social Club (£7,000 awarded, total project cost £23,789) and the upgrade of doors and windows at Kilmore village hall (£7,000 awarded).
