Carraig Gheal Wind Farm

Application Forms and Guidance

The Carraig Gheal Wind Farm Community Benefit fund is divided between two funding schemes; a micro grant scheme with awards of  up to £750* and the main grant scheme with awards of up to £10,000.

The two grant schemes are administered and managed by GreenPower. All enquiries about the schemes should be made to Jennie Cowley at jennie@greenpowerinternational.com

Funding criteria and the application forms for both funds can be obtained by emailing jennie@greenpowerinternational.com. Jennie issues all application forms and receives all completed applications. Should you have any queries or require any guidance on the application process please contact Jennie who will be happy to help you.

Micro Grants

The micro grant scheme is for grants of up to £750* and is available to individuals, constituted and non-constituted groups

Applications can be made at anytime and should be made via Jennie Cowley (jennie@greenpowerinternational.com) to one of the five community council areas bordering the Carraig Gheal Wind Farm: Avich and Kilchrenan, Kilninver and Kilmelford, Kilmore, Taynuilt, Glenorchy and Innishail.

Decisions on micro grant applications are made by the relevant Community Council at their next meeting. They then forward on to Jennie their decision and the applicant is then notified of the decision as soon as possible.

Grants are awarded on a first come first served basis. If the cost of the project/event is more than the £750 limit funding can be sought from other organisations/fund raising activities and details should be included in the application form. Argyll and Bute Council have a list of funding sources here should this be of help.

Please note that funds must only be used for the purposes of a charitable nature for the public good.

* Please note that the £750 limit for micro-grants is a temporary increase from £250 for the 2024/25 year and it should not be assumed this limit of £750 will be available in the future.

Main Grants

The main grant is for £751 up to £10,000 and is available to constituted groups only. If the application is for a village hall the upper limit on this has now changed:

  1. Village Halls may in their application make the case for funding in excess of £10,000 and up to a maximum of £20,000.
  2. An award above the £10,000 limit will only be made once other funding applications have been decided and the Steering Group, taking into account the remaining funds balance and other commitments, confirms there are sufficient funds available. If funds are available, the decision to award a sum higher than the £10,000 limit remains at the discretion of the Steering Group.
  3. If a village hall is awarded up to £10,000, then further applications can be made from the hall in the subsequent funding rounds.
  4. If a village hall is awarded between £10,000 and £15,000 – then no further applications can be made from, or in relation to, the hall in the next funding round.
  5. If a village hall is awarded between £15,000 and £20,000, then no further applications can be made from, or in relation to, the hall in either of the next two funding rounds.
  6. Please include as part of the application future plans for the hall.

Part of the eligibility criteria is that your project is within one (or more) of the five community council areas bordering the Carraig Gheal Wind Farm: Avich and Kilchrenan, Kilninver and Kilmelford, Kilmore, Taynuilt, Glenorchy and Innishail. In light of this, for the Steering Group to consider a grant application, they ask to see specific ways in which their communities would benefit should your project/organisation be based out with these five areas. Please bear this in mind should you decide to go ahead and submit an application.

Decisions on approving the main grant applications are made by the Steering Group which meets twice a year. The next round of funding for the main grants opens on 1st May with the closing date being 31st July. The Steering Group will then meet at the end of September to decide which grants to approve and by how much.

Please note funds must only be used for the purposes of a charitable nature for the public good.

More information on the management and decision making process for both funds can be found here.
